CALGARY, ALTA. – Hyundai’s newest flagship dealership is open for business.
Topping out at 47,000 square feet, the new South Trail Hyundai in Calgary is the largest store in the network and the latest to meet the brand’s Global Dealership Space Identity (GDSI) standards.
The store is also the latest addition to the McManes Automotive Group and the third ground-up build in the groups’ auto mall in the southeast end of Calgary.
“My favourite part of the store is the large showroom and exterior,” explained Mike McManes, dealer principal of South Trail Chrysler and son of McManes owner, Jim.
“The new image that Hyundai has looks amazing.”
Construction of the $15-million facility took approximately 12 months. Dan Katz has been named general manager.
The store boasts a 6,000-square foot 11-car showroom, 28 service bays, a six-car service drive-thru and an indoor delivery pod.
It also has flagship items of GDSI including but not limited to, the shaped sky bronze ACM exterior, vertical green columns, a brand wall and reception desk and a North American one-of-a-kind full bronze ACM showroom ceiling.
Hyundai Canada chief Don Romano said dealers are continuing to raise the benchmark for what a modern, welcoming dealership can be as they continue to meet the GDSI standards across Canada.
“South Trail Hyundai is an immaculate new facility that showcases the stylish, high-quality, well-equipped Hyundai vehicles in our lineup,” Romano said.
“I would like to congratulate the entire team at South Trail Hyundai for their successful opening.”
McManes said the plan is to launch with a heavy marketing campaign to spread the word about the new dealership.
“We will be branding with radio, print, direct mail and billboards,” he explained. “More specifically, we will be targeting southeast Calgary to ensure that they know we will deliver a different experience from what they are used to getting in other parts of the city.”
With significant residential and commercial development in the area in recent years, the store and the mall seem to be well positioned to take advantage of the growing community.
The group’s effort in this corner of the city dates back to 2011 when Jim McManes purchased 32-acres of land near 130 Ave. SE and 52 St. SE. The plan was to create an auto strip home to five dealerships. Since then, it has opened the mammoth 101,000-square foot South Trail Chrysler followed by South Trail Kia next door.
Opening the new Hyundai point means two vacant lots remain at the site. McManes said the team is continuing to work to fill the other spots.
Aside from the growth at South Trail, recent years has also seen McManes acquire St. Albert Dodge and the fall 2015 purchase of David Morris Fine Cars (now called Mercedes-Benz Edmonton West). They also broke ground on what will be Calgary’s third Mercedes-Benz store – Mercedes-Benz Country Hills.
The latter, a 95,000-square foot dealership in the northeast section of Calgary, is “coming along nicely,” according to McManes.
“We have product ordered and we will be open July 4.”
